Romeo’s Poison


Here’s a great example of pairing the yin and the yang. The coolness of cucumber, the sweet notes of Big O, and the silkiness of egg whites combined with the heat of Habanero bitters makes for an uniquely satisfying gin cocktail just right for summer.



  • 1½ oz Hendrick’s Gin
  • 1 oz Big O Ginger Liqueur
  • ½ oz honey syrup
  • 1 egg white
  • 5 slices cucumber
  • Bittermens Hellfire Habanero Shrub bitters


  1. Combine cucumber slices and honey syrup into shaker.
  2. Muddle strenuously. Add remaining ingredients – except bitters – to shaker and shake vigorously without ice for 15 seconds.
  3. Add ice and shake an additional 15 seconds.
  4. Fine strain into a chilled glass and add bitters.
  5. Garnish with cucumber slice.
